Cruising back to 2012: Norway

One of the memories I will certainly treasure most is going on a cruise to the Norwegian fjords in the spring of 2012. We went with P&O Cruises on their ship 'Azura'. As soon as you pull up in your car at Southampton you feel welcomed right away. The chauffeurs park the car, take your luggage and all you have to do is board ready for your voyage! I still remember the sheer size of the ship, the vast number of decks and corridors absolutely everywhere you went.

There were endless things to do from going to the theatre, having a swim, visiting the gym and watching films, just to name a few. Not to mention the food! Any kind of breakfast you desired, a light lunch and a three course dinner. Alongside a 24 hour buffet which served all kinds of food, afternoon tea and room service! Food heaven. One evening we watched 'War Horse' on the outdoor cinema screen whilst laying on deck under blankets, the golden sun setting over the Norwegian sea. A memory I will always treasure.

Apart from the days we were 'at sea' we went on excursions to each port. The first port was Stavanger then Flaam, Olden and finally Bergen. We would visit little towns in the mountains and along the waters edge. We went to museums and churches, train, funicular and speed boat rides whilst buying souvenirs (many were to do with moose?!). The scenery was simply breathtaking, I haven't since seen anything quite like it since. The glassy stillness of the water around the fjords was extraordinary whilst the mountains towered all around with their snow caps, the clouds wafting over the peaks. The weather was cold enough to be wrapped up but the sun beamed the whole time. The photograph below is undoubtedly my favourite picture I have ever taken, I like everything about how it looks but also because of the wonderful memories it holds.
