Paris & Versailles

There was a beautiful moment where our hotel room wasn't quite ready for us as we arrived, so we decided to take a walk for an hour or so toward the Eiffel Tower.

Neither of us were quite fully prepared for the cold at this point, so with freezing feet and damp hair, we Google Maps'd our way towards the iconic piece of architecture. I have been to Paris once before and was not overly overwhelmed by it, but this trip I can truly say changed my opinion for the better.

After a ten minute walk and a wondering of where is it, there it was! Peeking rather ominously behind a series of beautiful apartments with white washed brick and flower potted balconies. There was the Eiffel Tower, in all its steel glory. The aforementioned beautiful moment is about to come, where snow was gently falling, settling effortlessly on the concrete that was no longer visible. Our trail of footprints were the first to leave an impression on that virginal snow, and the quiet was almost eery.

In a place where tourists flock with selfie sticks, rucksacks and eager faces, there was none of this to be seen. Clearly people had decided to visit an indoor attraction, perhaps the Louvre, instead of braving the icy snow. For us, this meant that there were only a few other people at the base of great monument, no chatter or laughter, simply quiet.
